In the context of change management, neuroplastic change is the foundation for behavior change and a pathway to develop resilience.

Neuroplasticity is the capacity for neurons and networks in the brain to change connections and behaviors in response to new information, stimulation, development, or trauma.

We can influence our brain development in positive or negative directions during periods of change and transformation. To encourage positive neuroplastic change in yourself or your team, consider the following:

🌟 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞. Challenge is an essential component of neuroplastic change. Remind your team that when we challenge our mind and body through mental and physical practices, our brains work better and longer, and we recover (bounce back) more quickly from future adversity.

🌟 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. When you give the skill you and your team are learning meaning and relevance, you will get the feeling of being rewarded while engaging in a new task. This is associated with neuroplastic change and resilience.

🌟𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. Focusing on a specific task or challenge increases the likelihood of positive neuroplastic change. Encourage your team to reduce distractions and avoid multi-tasking when possible.

🌟𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. Doing an activity once is not enough. To create new neuroplastic connections and improve resilience, try shorter bouts of intense repetition. Support yourself and your team's cognitive development by practicing the new skills and behaviors repeatedly.

🌟𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞. Neuroplastic change takes time for structural and functional change to occur. Be patient and remember to seek out and find joy in the process of change!  Celebrate wins, highlight lessons learned, and focus on what you will gain because of your efforts.

Do you have an example of how you’ve leveraged the power of neuroplasticity to accelerate organizational change and improve team resilience? If so, please share in the comments!
